With a crowded ribbon-cutting ceremony last Sunday, March 25, the new Skate Park at Magnolia Park officially opened.
An estimated 250 people attended the opening. Skateboard hot-shots sailed above the fresh concrete ramps and berms as helmeted and padded preschoolers gave the newest addition to St. Martinville recreation a try.

St. Martin Parish Registrar of Voters Patricia T. Guidry reports a rather turn out of early voters for municipal races in St. Martinville and a bond proposal for Hospital Service District No. 2 (St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge).
As of noon Tuesday only 269 votes had been cast in the city races and 127 on the bond proposal.
That represents 6.2 percent of St. Martinville voters and less than one percent of the electors residing in the hospital district.

New St. Martin Parish President Chester Cedars was sworn in at the March 6 parish council meeting. The oath of office was administered to the long-time parish legal adviser and former assistant district attorney by his law partner Stan Gauthier II.
Cedars will serve as interim president until a special November election when voters will choose a successor to Guy Cormier who resigned last month to accept a position with the Louisiana Police Jury Association.
