Fire victim IDed; death accidental

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has released the findings from the fatal fire at Robin’s Hardware in November 2017.
The body found inside the building has been identified as Andres Manual Miguel, 20, of Henderson. Miguel died of smoke and soot inhalation and the St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office ruled the death as accidental.

BB park will serve elderly, disabled

The planned new park on Veteran Drive will be designed for easy access and feature facilities especially aimed at elderly and mobility-impaired Breaux Bridge residents.
Plans for the new facility, located at the site of the old swimming pool, were discussed at the April 10 city council meeting. Council members expressed a desire to enlist the help of experts to ensure that the best practices for access as well as proper planning for future improvements are encompassed in the design.

Henderson mulls property upkeep

The town of Henderson is considering entering into an intergovernmental agreement with St. Martin Parish government to help address the problem of poorly-maintained properties.
The issue was raised by a resident’s complaint at the April 9 town council meeting. Mayor Sherbin Collette said that new parish president Chester Cedars has been floating the idea of a parish wide effort to find a cooperative remedy for messy properties.

LFP campground nears reopening

Officials with the Louisiana Office of State Parks disclosed this week that the campground facilities at Lake Fausse Point State Park are scheduled to reopen sometimes next month.
Sharon S. Broussard with the OSP’s Public Relations Office said the electrical repairs to the campground’s 50 sites are 95 percent complete. She added that the department plans to do “a staggered soft opening” some time in May.
“We are staggering the opening of campsites to anticipate any last minute repairs and allow for any need to move overnight visitors to working sites,” she added.
