The new height barriers installed at the beginning of this year restricting vehicles over 9.5 feet tall from using the Butte La Rose pontoon bridge have been nearly destroyed by three separate incidents.
First to be damaged were the yellow signs stating a five ton maximum weight and a 9.5 feet clearance.
Next was the entire metal sign bent by a passing box truck traveling fast enough to rip the sign off its metal stand.
Then on Friday, Feb. 16 more damage was done to the only sign still standing.

A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction ordering a stop to work on construction of the Basin Bridge Pipeline that would pass through the Atchafalaya Basin in the southeastern portion of upper St. Martin Parish.
Federal District Judge Shelly Dick’s decision last Friday was at least a temporary win for environmental groups including the Atchafalaya Basinkeepers, Louisiana Crawfish Producer’s Assn., Gulf Restoration Network, Waterkeeper Alliance and Sierra Club Delta Chapter, who jointly filed suit against the pipeline on Jan. 11.

The St. Martin Sheriff’s Office has released its procedures for the public use of the new SMSO shooting range.
Located at 1381 Francois Rd., off LA 96/ Catahoula Hwy between St. Martinville and Parks, the state-of-the-art range is considered the best in the region. It was officially opened in October of last year and is now available for public use at no cost.
Shooting lanes at the range will be made available every month on the first and third Saturday mornings and the second and fourth Wednesday afternoons.
