St. Martin Parish is considering installing GPS tracking devices in all parish-owned vehicles and equipment. Parish President Chester Cedars outlined the results of his search for the best vendor of the devices and monitoring service at the June 5 council meeting.
Many Acadiana parishes and municipalities have installed such systems to track government property. Aside from the ability to monitor the current location and movement history of vehicles for accountability reasons, the system could allow more efficient deployment of these assets.

So many entrants have already signed up for the Kiwanis Club’s planned August car show that it has to be moved to Magnolia Park.
At the June 4 city council meeting, Kiwanis representative Michelle Broussard was given permission for the move. The council approved the use of the park and the closing of the boat ramp for several hours during the show, scheduled for August 25.

Village water system customers have posted on Facebook and contacted the news media to bring attention to water clarity issues, but Mayor Kevin Katley told the Teche News they would get better results by contacting the water company.
“We have a large system that has generally been neglected for 40 to 60 years,” he said Tuesday. “We pass every monthly test for quality. We have installed 20 automatic flush valves and will add more as time goes on.”
