In recent weeks, St. Martinville residents have reported that someone has been making purchases arranged on-line using fake $100 bills.
St. Martinville Police Public Information Officer Adam Touchet is warning the public that
“prop” currency, which has the words “For Motion Picture Purposes” printed on its face, has been used to dupe inattentive individuals.

After three years of constant improvement, the Village of Parks’ Cecile Rousseau Poche Memorial Park has been chosen by the Louisiana State Parks and Recreation Association “Recreational Park of the Year”
for 2020.
The park has always had the advantage of a very scenic location. The tree-shaded acreage along a wide stretch of Bayou Teche features a boat ramp, camper parking, large and small pavilions and baseball and basketball facilities. It is the venue for the annual Cracklin’ Cook-off, which will be held on April 26-27 this year.
Berard
Alleging that he was discriminated against because of his race, former Chief Administrative Officer Shedrick Berard has filed a complaint against the City of St. Martinville with the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights and the state Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The complaint, filed on Jan. 23, describes what Berard sees as an attempt by white council members to prevent his success in the CAO position.
New faces – At the first full meeting of the St. Martin Parish Council, members heard a report on the initial list of road improvements projects proposed for 2020.

St. Martin Parish is planning to make some changes in the management system for recreation programs at parish parks.
Introduced at the Jan. 21 Public Works Committee meeting was an ordinance amendment dissolving the existing steering committee and replacing it with a board of directors.
Parish President Chester Cedars explained that the move is intended to bring more consistency to park usage policies, space rentals and the handling of complaints.
Magnolia dirt work – The baseball/football fields at St. Martinville’s Magnolia Park have been turned up for leveling, grading and reseeding. Also, the slab for a weight-training set is being formed and an asphalt overlay has been approved for the much-utilized 1.1-mile walking track.(Karl Jeter)
Independent auditor Burton Kolder of the Lafayette accounting firm Kolder, Slaven and Co., will deliver what could be an eye-opening 2019 audit report for the city in an unusual closed meeting before the end of January. The matter was discussed at the Jan. 21 city council meeting.
The city’s financial status has been the subject of concern to officials for the past year. Chief Administrative Officer Avis Gutekunst, hired last May, has worked since that time to get the books in order with the assistance of the accounting firm Faulk and Winkler.
