Whitney John Savoy

Parks – Whitney John Savoy, 88, passed away in the evening of April 7, 2020, at his residence after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Whitney was born August 9, 1931, in Parks, La. to Iphis and Annaisse LeBlanc Savoy. After graduating from Breaux Bridge High School, Whitney joined the Air Force and served from 1951-1955. While there he worked on aircraft such as the B-29, KC97 and B-47. From 1956-1992, he worked at Paul Fournet Air Service, going from A&P mechanic to chief inspector service manager.
Whitney was monumental in helping establish the Aviation Technology program at the Louisiana Technical College in Lafayette. He went on to become an instructor of the aviation course for several years.
Whitney received the Honest Engine Award in 1979 from the Confederate Air Force. He was also awarded the Charles Taylor ‘Master Mechanic’ Award from the Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration on October 26, 2007.
Whitney loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and singing. He was a great cook and loved to yodel.
Whitney is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rose Menard Savoy; his daughters, Patricia (Michael) Sarkies and Viola (Don) Ardoin; his grandchildren, Ryan (Dez) Sarkies, Kacie (Joseph) Breaux, Abbie (Skylar) Mouton, Allie (Danna) Doré and Kobie (Lee) Rhodes; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Iphis and Annaisse LeBlanc Savoy; and his sister, Audrey Savoy Robinson.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate, and readers will be Kacie Breaux and Allie Doré.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
Our family would like to sincerely thank all the doctors, nurses, friends and family who helped make the last few years of Whitney’s life as pleasurable as possible.
