Vernice Barras Camille

St. Martinville – We are sad to announce the death of Vernice Barras Camille.
Vernice was born to Mr. Cleus Barras and Doralis Theriot on July 27, 1928, in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Vernice was the eldest of four children.
She is survived by her husband, James Camille, two daughters, Mona Bienski and husband Bobby, and Tonya Lancon and husband Stan; son, Jeffrey Camille and significant other Tammy Douet; and brother, George “Pip” Barras and wife Joyce. She has eight surviving grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  
Vernice was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Merlin and Robert Barras. Additionally, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Catrice Marie Lancon; and a grandson, Robert James Bienski.  
Vernice graduated from St. Martinville Senior High and married James Camille on May 24, 1947. He was enlisted in the United States Air Force for 25 years.  Vernice accompanied him on family tours which included Louisiana, Oklahoma, Minnesota, England, Spain and Arkansas. She enjoyed living abroad and was a member of the United States Air Force Wives’ Club. 
During the times of James’ Temporary Duty Assignments in Okinawa and Vietnam, Vernice managed the household and raised her three children.  
Vernice was a devout Catholic. She and James attended St. Martin de Tours Church consistently while they were able to. She liked traveling and being around family. Also, Vernice enjoyed praying the Rosary every Monday with the ladies of Cypress Island.   
Visiting hours were observed at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday.  
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Martin de Tours, with Reverend Jason Mouton officiating at 2 p.m. 
Entombment followed at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Pallbearers included Jeffrey Camille, Bobby Bienski, Stan Lancon, Major Barrett Lancon, George “Pip“ Barras, Jeffrey Kostelnik and Nicholas Bourgeois. 
Honorary pallbearers included Robert Bienski, Jace Camille, James Vaughn, Ryan Vaughn, Tim Segur and Eddie Veale.  
The family would like to thank NSI Hospice’s entire staff for their professionalism, compassion, and quality care for the past few months.
