Catahoula – A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at St. Rita Catholic Church for Teddy Joesph Huval, 85, who passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at his residence. 

A visitation will take place at St. Rita Catholic Church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service.

A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday by the Men’s Rosary Group of New Iberia. 

Deacon Marcel “Butch” Hebert will officiate the memorial service. Readers will be Chelsie Huval and Scarlett Guidry.

Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula.

Teddy was born on February 24, 1938, in Cecilia. Teddy displayed a strong work ethic and an adventurous spirit. Throughout his life, he pursued various careers with dedication and passion. As a crew boat captain, Teddy fearlessly navigated the waters, demonstrating his natural ability to be at home on the sea. His love for the waters began with a career in the Navy. Teddy served in the Navy from 1955-1958.

But Teddy wasn’t just limited to the sea. He also had a talent for driving 18-wheelers, skillfully maneuvering those massive vehicles across highways and byways. His determination and love for the open road made him an exceptional truck driver who earned the respect of his peers.

In addition to his maritime and truck driving ventures, Teddy also found solace in shrimp boat operations. The ocean provided him with a sense of tranquility that only those who have sailed its depths can truly understand.

Perhaps it was Teddy’s commitment to nature that drew him to the art of crawfishing. With great enthusiasm, he devoted himself to this craft passionately. Each crawfish season was not just about making a living; it was an opportunity for Teddy to be one with the land he loved so dearly.

Beyond his impressive career pursuits, Teddy’s true joy emanated from spending time outdoors. He felt most alive when surrounded by nature’s beauty: hunting wild game in dense forests or sharing stories around a campfire under the starry night sky. These moments allowed him to connect deeply with his surroundings and find solace in the simplicity of life.

But above all, Teddy cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-great grandfather. His warm smile and gentle nature brought comfort to those around him. Teddy’s love knew no bounds, and he always prioritized the well-being and happiness of his loved ones. Countless memories were made during family gatherings and holidays, where Teddy’s presence filled the room with love, laughter and meez-aire’.

He is survived by his son, Timothy Huval; daughter, Andrea Huval; grandchildren, Timmy Huval, Trevor Huval (Chelsie), Nickie Scheiern (Tim), Brittany Huval and Jarron Courville; great-grandchildren, Aleccia Huval, Austin Huval, Drew Huval, Ashlyn Scheiern, Ava Huval and Nora Huval; great-great grandchildren, Brynn Boudreaux, Briar Boudreaux, Bree Boudreaux, Dre Huval and Kaizyn Huval; sister, Dorothy Blanchard; sister-in-law, Thelma Huval; and his godchild, Barry Boutte.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Huval; parents, Noah and Ada Angelle Huval; daughter, Dawn Huval; brothers, James Huval, Jack Huval, Carl Huval, Earl Huval, and Eric Huval; sister, Adelle Angelle; and his daughter-in-law, Annette Huval.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Scarlett and Kevin Guidry, Cherrie Guidry, and Andrea Sargent.

Teddy and Myrtle will both be placed in their final resting place together.
