Steven Jules Champ Sr.

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Steven Jules Champ, Sr., 49, who passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Rev. Michael Sucharski, SVD, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Brittany Nicole Champ and Marilyn Champ. Gift bearers will be Jordan Elizabeth Champ, Madison Laxey and Amanda Hankenhof.
Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Steven was employed by Exxon Mobil Refinery for 21 years. He was the OSD Operation Chief for the Exxon Mobil Fire Team. Steven enjoyed sports and coached his son’s and daughter’s basketball teams at Trinity Catholic School, soccer for St. Martin Soccer Association, and baseball for the St. Martinville League.
Steven was a devout Catholic and served his community through many organizations. He was a lifetime member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, where he served as a Parish Council Member and Lector. He served as Grand Knight for the Junior Knights of Peter Claver and was later a member of the Knights of Peter Claver.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laura Zenon Champ; son, Steven Jules Champ Jr.; daughter, Steanté Allen and husband Brandon; and one brother, Arthur Champ III and wife Marilyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Anna Mae Charles Champ Jr.
Pallbearers will be Charles W. Wade Jr., Dumas Charles Sr., Larry Charles Jr., Alfred Zenon, Michael Wayne Celestine and Ronald Laxey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Champ Jr., Brandon Allen, Arthur Champ III, Walter Zenon, Rinaldo Laxey, Cornell Zeno, Christopher Polk and William Matthews.
