Rita G. Mouton

Rita Mouton, also known as Rita Granger, was born on March 10, 1936, in Port Arthur, Texas. She peacefully passed away in her home in Parks, Louisiana surrounded by loved ones on August 9, 2023, at the age of 87. 

Rita was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Rita had a vibrant personality and was known for her many talents and interests. She had a deep love for flowers and gardening, her green thumb was admired by all. Rita’s creativity extended beyond the garden, handcrafting beautiful clothes, including tailoring her own wedding dress and sewing Easter clothes for her children. Her baking skills were extraordinary, and her Christmas Gingerbread list was highly coveted among family and friends.

But what truly set Rita apart was her kind and loving heart. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel special and cherished. Rita approached life with childlike wonder and had a genuine appreciation for the all the people and places she visited in the world.

Rita is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Clifford Mouton Jr.; her sister, Anita Swan; her daughter, Juanita Mouton; her sons, Douglas Mouton and Albert Mouton and his wife Kelley; and her grandchildren, Molly and Brandy Vannoy, Tasha Mouton and Dexter Mouton, Morgan Morvant and Caroline Mouton, Noah and Jacob Mouton. 

She is preceded in death by her sister, Betty Addison; her brothe, Oscar Granger Jr.; her son, Roger Mouton; her father, Oscar Granger Sr.; and her mother, Gladys Granger.

Rita graduated from Breaux Bridge High School. Early in life she had a career at GMAC in Lafayette, then later in life she worked at H&R Block in Breaux Bridge. Rita made lifelong friends and maintained strong connections throughout the years. 

However, Rita’s most significant vocation was that of wife and homemaker, supporting her husband Clifford’s career in the Air Force, which took them around the world, including Washington D.C., Hawaii, Paris, France, Wiesbaden, Germany, Bangkok, Thailand, and Rome, Italy. 

Despite the frequent moves, Rita embraced her role, always ensuring the well-being of her family while immersing her family in different cultures. She raised four curious and worldly children, creating priceless memories along the way.

After they retired from 23 years of service, Cliff and Rita built their dream home in Parks on the Bayou Teche where they resided for the past 40 years where they tended to their garden, traveled the country and made beautiful memories with friends and family. Rita continued to love and help people all her life, entertaining, baking and playing with her grandchildren and extended family, and helping people in the area with their taxes for almost two decades.

Rita will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth, talents, and loving nature will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
