Quinn Joseph Hebert Sr.

Quinn Joseph Hebert Sr., loving father, prominent Houston businessman, community leader and philanthropist, was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, on the 17th of November 1963, and died suddenly at his home in Houston on Monday, the 6th of September. He was 57 years of age.

A long-time resident of Houston and Louisiana native, he was a descendant of some of Acadiana’s earliest settlers. He spent his youth in the heartland of that region, Breaux Bridge. Proud of his Cajun and French heritage, he embodied all the characteristics associated with a South Louisiana gentleman. Gregarious with everyone at first meeting, a magnetic and engaging conversationist, he never resisted asserting his opinion. He often said if one thing defined that part of his Louisiana, it was the love of family and the willingness to embrace any stranger.

An avid LSU alumni and supporter of the purple and gold, Quinn deemed himself the number one Tiger fan in Texas.

After the untimely death of his adored wife, Jane, nearly seven years ago, the total focus of Quinn’s energy and love was his three sons, Quinn Jr., Harland and Andrew.

A deeply religious and devout Catholic, Quinn was an ardent supporter of the sick and poor. He never passed up the opportunity to extend a hand to someone in need. He was active in the following organizations: Knight, Sovereign Order of Malta; Knight Commander, The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher; Chairman of the Board, St. John Paul II; board of directors, Serra Club of Houston; board of directors, Strake Jesuit College Preparatory; board of directors, Magnolia School and member, Legatus Chapter.

Quinn graduated from LSU, summa cum laude, with a double major in political science and history, and earned his juris doctorate from Boston College Law School. He began his career at the prestigious New Orleans law firm of Jones Walker. Subsequently, he moved into the oil and gas industry as general counsel for American Oilfield Divers. He was later named president and CEO of Cal Dive International.

In addition to his three sons, he is survived by his brothers, Dr. Mitchell Hebert and his wife Kara, and Christopher Hebert JD and his wife Angela; and several sisters-in-law. He is also survived by his aunt, Marie Louise “Bibble” Hebert; his mother-in-law, Jean Hundley; and close cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Trahan Hebert; his father, Roland Hebert; and his brother, Timothy Hebert.

Honoring Quinn as pallbearers during the services are his cousins, Robert Benoit and Dwight Winstead, and close friends Craig Biggio, Arjun Ramchandani, Dr. Guillermo Torre, J.L. Marti, Alex Hoff, Alfredo Tellez, Michael Kerley and Michael Kenneally.

Friends gathered were cordially invited to a visitation with the family from seven until nine o’clock on Friday, the 10th of September, in the Sanctuary of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway in Houston, where a recitation of the Holy Rosary commenced at half-past seven o’clock.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 11th of September, in the Sanctuary of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, celebrated by Bishop Steven Lopes with Bishop Glen Provost.

Immediately following the family gathered for a private Rite of Committal.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that gifts in his name be directed to Magnolia School, 9902 Long Point Rd., Houston, TX, 77055; to Western Academy, 1511 Butlercrest St., Houston, TX, 77080; or to Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, 8900 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX, 77036.
