Oleus J. ‘Champ’ Champagne, Jr.

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Oleus J. “Champ” Champagne Jr., 82, who passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019. 
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continued from 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. 
Father Michael Champagne officiated at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures were read by Baily and Brooke Patin. Gift Bearers werbe Kayla Champagne and Rhylee Stelly. 
Champ was the owner and operator of Champ’s Wrecker Service for 50 years and many other businesses. As a pastime, he enjoyed working in his flower garden, barbecuing and using his favorite sauce, Jack Miller’s, smoking his cigars, and entertaining his family and friends. He was an animal lover. Champ never met a stranger and will be remembered for his kindness to those in need and his love for his grandchildren. 
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Patin Champagne; sons, Bryan Champagne and wife Amedia of Parks and Scotty Champagne of Lafayette; daughters, Dana Patin and husband William “Billy” of Breaux Bridge and Crystal Stelly and husband Walter “John” of Pensacola Fla.; his grandchildren, Baily Patin and fiancée Mickey Pontiff, Brooke Patin, Rhylee Stelly and Kayla and Brandon Champagne; brothers, Harris Champagne and wife Doris Ann of Breaux Bridge and Harold Champagne and wife Betty of Cypress Island; and sisters, Emma Lou Serrette of Breaux Bridge, Elise Verret of Parks and Mazel Dwyer of Cypress Island. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oleus and Elise Champagne Sr.; son, Oleus “Noo” Champagne III; brothers, Linden Champagne, Howard “Mac” Champagne, Earl Champagne and Edward Champagne; and his sisters, Verna Guidry and Maudry Landry. 
Pallbearers were Bryan and Brandon Champagne, Billy and Keith Patin, John Stelly and Mickey Pontiff. 
Honorary Pallbearers were Scotty, Harris, Harold and Howard Champagne Jr., and Clarence Patin.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Heart of Hospice and staff for the compassion and care they provided.
