Mickey G. Champagne

Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Mickey G. Champagne, 60, who passed away at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida.

Visitation took place at the funeral home on Monday, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continued on Tuesday, from 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m..

A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. on Monday by Deacon Ken Soignier.

Celebrant was Rev. Garrett McIntyre and Concelebrants were Rev. Paul Broussard and Rev. Cyprian Eze for the Funeral Mass.

Mickey Champagne was a husband, father, and provider. He spoiled his wife rotten: she never cooked, cleaned, or did any household chores, woke up to love notes (plural) every day, and always had a fresh bouquet of roses from him. He raised three boys with humor and faith, and was never absent from their lives for more than a few moments. To say he worked tirelessly would be to rob him of the glory of his life: that he worked constantly, even if he was constantly tired.

He lived an active life. His family never knew him to sit. He ate standing and lived to run and swim. He died in Florida, not far from the beach, which in truth was the only place he was really, completely alive after he retired from his triathlete career.

He has left his family with an example of ceaseless prayer and the imitation of Christ’s suffering.

Scripture was read by Summer Champagne and Susan Champagne.   Gift Bearers were Ava Champagne and Kathryn Guidry.

Interment followed at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1.

He is survived by wife, Elizabeth Champagne; sons, Michael Champagne, John (Megan) Champagne, and Thomas Champagne; parents, Harris J. “Mick” and Doris Champagne; and his brother, Chris Champagne.

Pallbearers were Michael, John and Thomas Champagne, Dr. Daniel Wiltz, Ed Champagne, and Chris Champagne.

Honorary pallbearer was Cohen Champagne.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that monetary donations be made in Mickey’s memory for Mass Intentions.

Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
