Michael Walter Couvillon

Cecilia – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Michael Walter Couvillon, 77, who passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at his residence.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday and continued on Thursday at 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Rev. Gary Schexnayder officiated at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures were read by Sharon Marks and Baylee Couvillon. Gift bearers were McKenzie Frugé and Morgan Couvillon.
Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.
Michael was a welder and hammer operator and owner of Cuv’s Fabrication Inc. He enjoyed meeting with his buddies daily for breakfast at McDonald’s, gardening, racing his horse, “Go-Candy-Go”, and riding his horse, “Whiskey.” Michael loved watching his children and grandchildren play ball, and he also enjoyed watching football and baseball games. He was the quarterback for Cecilia High School team in 1957 and 1958.
Michael will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elaine Mistric Couvillon; son, Brian Couvillon of Cecilia; daughters, Kim Couvillon, Jill Couvillon Ray, Jamie Couvillon Frugé and husband Neal, and Julie Couvillon Credeur, all of Cecilia; sisters, Mitzi Couvillon Benoit of Cecilia and Merley Couvillon Landry and husband Donald of Lafayette; grandchildren, Christian Ray and spouse Emily, McKenzie Frugé, Landon Credeur, and Morgan and Baylee Couvillon; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Emersyn Ray; his mother-in-law, Beunice Carriere Mistric of Leonville; and his sisters-in-law, Donna Mistric Pontiff and husband Gerald of Arnaudville and Vickie Dejean Mistric of Youngsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ione Calais Couvillon; niece, Alisa Landry Broussard; nephews, David and Seale Benoit; brothers-in-law, Cecil Benoit and Mike Mistric; and sister-in-law, Susan Mistric Griffin.
Pallbearers were Brian Couvillon, Christian Ray, Landon Credeur, Neal Frugé, Douglas Landry and Harris “MeMe” Tauzin.
Honorary pallbearers were Don Dauphine, Otis Simmons, Bobby Stelly, Larry Guidry, Carroll Gautreaux and Burton Guidry.
The family would like to thank Dr. Victoria Panelli, her nurse practitioner Kellie West, the staff of Hope Hospice and the oncology nursing staff of Lafayette General-8 West for their wonderful care.
