Michael, affectionately called Chip or PJ, was born on June 24, 1956, in Houston, Texas. He was the second child born to Melba Danzie and Newman Braud Sr. The first years of Chip’s life were challenging as he had many extended periods in and out of the hospital. His struggles fluctuated over the next five years at which point he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.
While he may have had differences, he did not let that keep him from fighting. Because of his spirit to live and fight for life each day, he was given the nickname ‘Chip’ as in a ‘Chip off the old block’.
With him growing stronger and more each day, he began to fall right into place with his siblings. Michael attended Notre Dame Catholic Elementary and graduated from St, Martinville Sr. High School in 1975. After briefly attending USL, Chip realized he had a passion for people, good conversation, and technology. This led to his consistent, periodic visits to the Dispatcher Unit at the St. Martinville Police Department. He was so convincing that they gave him a job. Chip was employed by the City Police as a Dispatcher for 19 years until his retirement.
Michael moved to Denver, Colorado in 2005 where he remained until his death. His passion and love for animals included gerbils, fish, chickens, and even snakes. This love led to his surviving son, his dog Bruce.
His hobbies included stamp collecting, working on electronics, fishing, going on adventures with Bruce, and being a true die-hard Saints fan. Michael had a contagious laugh and smile and a true Heart of Gold. He never let his handicaps keep him from learning something new or going somewhere different.
In Denver, Chip maintained his spirit and independence of getting around and exploring the town while having a job as a Customer Relationship Professional at PSB.
He leaves to cherish his memories of his mother, Melba Danzie Braud; his sister, Lynnette Braud; his niece, Natalie Lindon; his dog, Bruce; and a host of relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Newman Braud Sr.; his brother, Newman Braud Jr.; his sister, Madeleine Braud Lindon; his maternal grandmother, Lula Mae Williams Danzie; his paternal grandparents, Ethel and Granville Braud Sr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The preparation, arrangements, and return of Michael were entrusted to Easy Cremation of Colorado. Please remember that COVID protocols are still in place which also require a mask or face covering at all times.
