Melba L. Hebert

Breaux Bridge – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 100 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at Pellerin Funeral Home for Melba Hebert, 82, who passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday from 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
A rosary was prayed at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Rev. Garrett McIntyre officiated at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures were read by Lauren Theall. Gift Bearers were Lauren, Joseph and Alex Theall.
Interment followed at St. Bernard Mausoleum - No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
Melba was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Woodman of the World, and Home Demonstration Club. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, listening to music, dancing, shopping, playing on her bowling league, going to movies, attending her grandchildren’s 4-H/livestock shows, school, athletic, and music events. She loved drinking coffee and lunch gatherings with family and friends
For the majority of her working career, Melba worked in the insurance industry as a customer service representative and worked in Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Breaux Bridge. From 1991-1994 she was a Substitute Teacher at BBHS and worked at St. Bernard Catholic Church as a Secretary from 1994-1999.
She will be remembered for her love for God, her strong faith, her infectious smile, and her willingness to always go above and beyond to help family and friends in their time of need. She connected with people easily and accepted them without judgment. Throughout employment, Melba’s ability to speak French and English allowed her to assist those who could not speak English well.
She is survived by her spouse, Pierre Donald Hebert of Breaux Bridge; daughter, Gina Hebert (Shane) Theall; son, Jody L. Hebert of Piedmont, S.C.; five grandchildren, Jessica H. (Zane) Shipman, Jordan Hebert, Lauren Theall, Joseph Theall and Alex Theall; great-grandchild, Zelda Shipman; sister, Shirley Michel of Cecilia; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph C. and Lydia Roy LaPorte; two sisters, Mildred Taylor and Lita Haggard; three brothers, Frank LaPorte, Cyprien LaPorte and Abel LaPorte; and her daughter-in-law, Joanne Hebert.
Pallbearers were Shane Theall, Joseph Theall, Alex Theall, Darwin Clegg, Bobby Taylor and Terry LaPorte.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
