Mary Nellie Gordon Jones

Cecilia – Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose of Lima Church for Mary Jones, 65, the former Mary Nellie Gordon, who passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at her residence in St. Martinville.

Interment will be in St. Rose of Lima Church Cemetery. The Rev. Gregory Cormier, pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church in Cecilia, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Irma Stewart and Shannon Gordon.

Mrs. Jones was born on July 6, 1957, in Arnaudville, Louisiana to her parents, Horace Gordon Sr. and Wilda Patt Gordon. She spent most of her life in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, raising her family with her late husband, Clarence Thibodeaux.  

In her younger years, she worked for Martin Mills for 20 years and later for St. Agnes Nursing Home for two years.  Mary was a dedicated wife, beautiful sister, and loving mother to her three boys and she will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Survivors include three sons, Clarence Jones Jr., Nelton Jones and Quincy Jones; two grandchildren, Cortlyn Jones and Nelton Jones Jr.; five sisters, Gustavia Savoie (Murphy), Irma Stewart (Bill), Wilda Singleton (Hubert), Elizabeth Ledet and Ezola Gordon (Robert); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Clarence Thibodeaux; her parents, Horace Gordon Sr. and Wilda Patt Gordon; five brothers, Raymond, Rogers, Horace Jr., Albert, Tony and Gerald Gordon; and four sisters, Borita Davis, Anna Mae Cormier, Lucy Borel and Beulah Williams.

A rosary will be prayed at 9 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8 a.m. Friday until service time on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Davis, Lawrence Gordon, Randy Gordon, Dakota Powell, Markus Wiltz and Richard Soulaire. 

Honorary pallbearers will be her sons, Clarence Jones Jr., Nelton Jones and Quincy Jones, along with Bill Stewart, Murphy Savoie and Robert Williams.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Gustavia, Ezola, Theresa, Wilda “T-Will” and Alexis for their care of Mary.  Also, to Audubon Hospice, her hospice nurse, Maisha, and last, but not least, the staff of Melancon Funeral Home.
