Marella loved working in her flower beds. She loved to cook and did plenty of it for her family, friends, husband and her son’s employees. Every Christmas Eve she made a big pot of seafood gumbo for her children, grandchildren, and great -grandchildren who gathered in her home.
Marella loved music and dancing. Before her husband had a stroke, they would go dancing at La Poussiere on Sunday afternoons. Later, after he passed away, Marella joined the Breaux Bridge line-dancing Rockettes. They would get together and dance at nursing homes in the area.
Marella was very proud of her childhood spent in Atchafalaya, a small village of fishermen located in the Atchafalaya Basin. She was always happy to talk about those days. However, lately she sometimes felt sad and lonely because all who lived in the village were now gone. She would say, “Asteur y a que moi qui reste.” She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline Stoute of Lafayette, Judy Frederick and husband Roderick “Pee Wee” of Breaux Bridge, and Gail Melancon and husband Michael of Breaux Bridge; daughter-in-law, Angie Stoute of Breaux Bridge; 14 grandchildren, Amy, Christine, Hope, Justin, Kevin, Kelly, Kasey, Kory, Kyle, Lauren, Jake, Joseph, Sarah and Seth; and 19 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Thomas, Ann Marie, Wyatt, Bryce, Blake, Jenna, Lacey, Mason, Gaby, Gracelyn, Koralyn, Kole, Kyler, Kamdyn, Kynleigh, Blakely, Devin and Deanna.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Stoute; parents, Eno and Lucie “Ma Mom” Frederick Devillier; son, Danny Michael Stoute; brother, Floyd “Man” Devillier; and sisters, Priscilla “Pish” Savoy and Leona “LoLo” Courville.
Pallbearers werbe her grandsons, Kevin Melancon, Kelly Melancon, Kasey Melancon, Justin Frederick, Joseph Stoute, Seth Stoute and Jake Stoute.
Honorary pallbearers were her sons-in-law, Pee Wee Frederick and Michael Melancon.
The family is grateful to Grace Hospice and to the caregivers Judy Dupuis, Linda Stelly, Brook Borel and Patricia Jones for the compassionate care given to their beloved 94-year-old matriarch.
