Lin Joseph Berard

Breaux Bridge – A Funeral Service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Lin Joseph Berard, 87, who passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at The Carpenter House – St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday and continued on Friday at 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
A rosary wase prayed at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Deacon Marcel “Butch” Hebert officiated at the Funeral Service. Interment followed at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Lin was a veteran and retired 1st Sergeant of the U.S. Army where he served 21 years. After his military career he attended school for refrigeration, before starting his career as a Window Clerk for the United States Postal Service, where he worked for 20 years prior to his retirement. He was a member and commander of the VFW, American Legion, and 40&8.
Lin presented the Boys State awards at Breaux Bridge High School for many years. As a pastime, he enjoyed tending to his rabbit farm, gardening, growing flowers, traveling, dancing, and serving as a chair person for the Bingo games held at the Veteran’s Home. Lin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Renate Wawrzik Berard; daughters, Monika Robertson of Hawkingsville, Ga., and Ramona Berard of Breaux Bridge; sons, John Berard and wife Margaret of Charleston, S.C., Edwin Berard and wife Pamela of Breaux Bridge, and Gerhard Berard of Breaux Bridge; grandchildren, Chris Begnaud and spouse Donna, Theresa Denholm, Raymond Berard and Nonnie Berard; step granddaughter, Tanya LaGrange and spouse Cookie; step grandson, Dustin “Dusty” Trahan; great-grandchildren, Sterling Begnaud, Cameron Begnaud and Brooklyn Begnaud; step great-grandchildren, Saxon LaGrange, Soyer LaGrange and Trent LaGrange; brother, Charles Berard and wife Jeannie of Dalzell, S.C.; and sister, Gloria C. Stout of Breaux Bridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Berard Jr. and Selina Jeansonne Berard; brothers, “Kite” Jeansonne, Joseph Berard Jr. and Charles Berard; half-brother, Patrick Castille; half-sisters, Shirley C. Barras and Emily Castille; stepbrothers, Percy Castille, Davis Castille, Maurice Castille, Andrew Castille, Fred Castille and Harry Castille; and stepsister, Velma C. Breaux.
Pallbearers were Raymond Berard, Dustin Trahan, Trent LaGrange, Chris Begnaud, Nonnie Berard and Brian Broussard.
Honorary pallbearers were Jackie Segura and Buzz LeBlanc.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
