James Stelly ‘Jimmy’ Fontenette

St. Martinville – James Stelly “Jimmy” Fontenette was born on November 9, 1959, to the marital union of Joseph and Alberta Fontenette. On the afternoon of August 16, 2020, he peacefully passed away at the age of 60.
James was the eighth of 12 children. James knew Christ at a young age and practiced his Christian values throughout his life.
James was born in St. Martinville, La. He was a hard-working man and a very skilled welder of many talents. James had a passion for welding that took him to many different parts of the world, including Trinidad and Tobago, Africa, and many states. James loved to fish and visit with friends. He was a kind-hearted man who would give you his last; he had a special place in his heart for his children. If you knew James, it was all laughs and love. James lived a very full life.
James leaves to cherish his memories four sons, Rodney Fontenette (Eunice), James Fontenette Jr. (Tamica Francis), Jeremy Fontenette (Marquette) and Steven Fontenette; three daughters, Melanie Fontenette, Marjorie Lawrence and Claudia Fontenette; step-children, Mandriecka Francis (Jodeci) and Cheryl Williams; nine siblings, Gilda Ben, Rose Barras (Ronald), Sharon Simon (Alexander) Marsha Batiste (Carlos), Melissa Decuire (Tony), Crystal Fontenette, Roland Fontenette, Dennis Fontenette and Craig Fontenette.
He had numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, four aunts, sister-in-law Diane Fontenette, numerous cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alberta Fontenette; brother, Larry Fontenette; sister, Claudia Fontenette; and brother-in-law, George Ben.
Services will be held at Golden Meadows Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
