Harold J. Champagne

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Harold J. Champagne, 85, who passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at Heart Hospital of Lafayette.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday and continued on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.
A rosary was prayed at 6 p.m. on Friday by the Loreauville Knights of Columbus Men’s Rosary Group.
Father Mouton officiated at the Funeral Mass. Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Harold proudly served as the Ward III Constable from 1983-1990. He was a family-oriented man, who looked forward to cooking and entertaining at family gatherings. Harold never met a stranger and was known by many. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Curry Champagne; son, Ricky (Sheila) Champagne; daughters, Charlotte (Wayne) Oubre, Susan Champagne and Carolyn (Ken) Boutte; brother, Harris “Mick” (Doris) Champagne; sisters, Mazel Dwyer, Emma Lou Serrette and Elise Verrett; grandchildren, Ryan (Mandy) Broussard, Heather (Blake) Foreman, Brittany Broussard, Brody (Megan) Champagne, Blake Oubre, Austin Champagne and Jenna Oubre; and great-grandchildren, Maddox Foreman, Beckham Foreman, Brantley Champagne, Maverick Champagne, Chelsea Cheatham, Kane Broussard, Greyson Broussard and Carter Broussard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oleus Champagne and Elise Gauthier Champagne; brothers, Earl Champagne, Howard “Mack” Champagne, Edward Champagne, Linden Champagne Sr. and Oleus Champagne Jr.; sisters, Verna Guidry and Maudrey Landry; brothers-in-law, Pat Dwyer, Harris Serrette and Willie Verrette; and daughter-in-law, Deyna Champagne.
Pallbearers were Ryan Broussard, Brody Champagne, Blake Oubre, Austin Champagne, Blake Foreman and Wayne Oubre.
Honorary pallbearers were Harris “Mick” Champagne, Ronnie Landry, Linden Champagne Jr. and Ken Boutte.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
