Eloise Simon Bryant

St. Martinville – A memorial Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Eloise Simon Bryant, 87, who died on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

A visitation was held on Monday at the funeral home in St. Martinville from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Entombment followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.

Rev. Bill Melancon officiated the memorial Mass. Readers were Shirley Akers and Gwen LeBlanc.

A native and resident of St. Martinville, Eloise was born March 13, 1935, to the late Supreme Court Justice James D. Simon and Eloise Viola Stone. After graduating from the Convent of Mercy High School, Eloise attended USL and LSU.

She began her career in 1955 as a secretary working for Law, Real Estate, Construction and Oil Businesses before entering state services at the Department of Public Welfare in St. Martinville. She became a Welfare Technician in 1971 as a Social Worker and Administrating Service to the Aid to Family with Dependent Children, General Assistance, Disability Assistance, Elderly Assistance, Foster Care, and Food Stamp Departments. 

In 1983, she trained and accepted a position as Support Enforcement Officer 1 as a Collection Officer handling the collection of child support. She retired with the State with 30 years of service.

Eloise was also an active volunteer for the Tourism Commission in St. Martinville.

Eloise’s passion was raising her children, spending as much time with them, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren; gardening, dancing, reading, and league bowling. She had a strong Catholic faith. She had an overwhelming love for all animals, especially her many dogs throughout her lifetime.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first-born son, Sherwood; husband, Alfred Bryant; two sisters, Kathryn Monnin and Barbara Snell.

Survivors include, her daughters, Lisa Boudreaux [and husband Kenny] of Broussard, Karen Louviere [and husband Troy] of St. Martinville; her son, Michael [and wife Martha] of Breaux Bridge; her grandchildren, Jen Boudreaux, Chris Boudreaux [and wife Lezia], Morgan L. Albert [and husband Josh], Summer Louviere and Matthew Bryant; her great-grandchildren, Brexton Albert, Brookeson Albert and Leighton Laughlin.

Our Heartfelt Thanks and Greatest Appreciation go out to Avanti Assisted Living, Director Laurie, all staff and personnel, Hospice of Acadiana: Nurses [Katie, Stephanie and Seth], and Social Worker [Alyssa], Right at Home (Home Health Care) and all staff members.
