Edmonia Guidry Latiolais

Catahoula – Edmonia Guidry Latiolais was born on January 3rd, 1935, on a day when it was snowing, a rare sight for Louisiana. On this rare occasion God sent us a rare soul who would go on to help countless lives. Her loving father, Luke Guidry, made her a bottle of sugar water and smiled upon her.
She was a Catholic and prayed the rosary every day that she could. She loved people and did what she could to help others. She had a strong sense of right and wrong and could not tolerate injustice. When she heard that someone needed help, she did what she could and in some cases that meant stepping in and raising children who needed help.
She was married and had five children. She is survived by daughter, Lilla Bacque (Lee) from a previous marriage; four children with her loving husband, Sidney Latiolais Sr., daughter Sherline Huval (Erick), sons Sidney Latiolais Jr., Tony Latiolais (Millie) and Toby Latiolais; sister Delta Champagne; four grandchildren, Brian Latiolais, Kyle Latiolais, Ericka Huval Dees and Derick Huval; three great- grandchildren and one on the way.
Her loving son Toby took care of her in the last years of her life until her passing on August 17, 2021.
When she was around 14 years old she left school and traveled on her own to Texas. There she worked as a waitress in a restaurant and made money from the job but especially made money through tips because she was very good at her job and loved people. She sent most of the money to her family in Catahoula. She completed her education when she got older but she learned a lot through living life.
She ran her own successful Seafood Business during the 1970’s and 1980’s. She employed many people around the area. She loved those who worked for her and treated them with love and respect. They weren’t simply her employees, they were her friends.
She not only raised her own five children but she also raised at least six other children who were not her own but she raised them as her own and gave them a loving home. These children went on to live full and successful lives. Among them are John Latiolais, Clay Latiolais, Larry Latiolais Jr., Linda Guidry, Brian Ellis and Terry Ellis.
She also helped raise grandchildren Ericka and Derick Huval.
Preceded in death by her parents, Luke and Amy Latiolais Guidry; brothers, Jim Guidry, Bobby Guidry and baby sister Doris Guidry.
She will be cremated and placed with her late husband Sidney Latiolais Sr.
