Dorothy Elaine Johnson Polk
Lafayette – Dorothy Elaine Johnson Polk got her heavenly wings on September 19, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
She was born June 16, 1945, in Lafayette, LA. The sixth born of 13, she was the daughter of the late Harry Johnson Sr. and Olivia Thibodeaux Johnson.
A young and inspired Dorothy attended Adam Carlson High School in St. Martinville, LA. Following graduation in 1964, she would go on to college attending Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. It was here that some her strongest relationships would begin. On March 29, 1969, she crossed the line of the sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha. She graduated in 1968 and would forego a 45+ year career in education, where she would touch the lives of hundreds.
She diligently taught Mathematics and Physical Education at the one and only St. Martinville Senior High School. She would lead countless young women to athletic stardom and also claim the Louisiana State Championship in volleyball in 1988. In 2018, she was enshrined in the LVSA Hall Of Fame.
She would marry Lennet Polk and of this union came two children, Quincy and Charissa.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Johnson Sr. and Olivia Thibodeaux Johnson; siblings, Betty Lou Johnson Flugence, Selena Mae Johnson Mouton Ortiz, Harold Johnson Sr., Mary Jane Johnson Caver and Gilbert Michael Dauphine; nephews, Skody Neal Robertson, Joseph Smith Robertson Jr., Markus James Robertson Sr., Harold Johnson Jr. and Calvin Lee Henry; and former husband Lennet Polk.
She leaves fond memories to share with her children, Charissa Polk and Quincy Polk; grandchildren, Christian Isaiah Andrus, Trinity Jordan Filer, Quinn Nicholas Polk, Sean Christopher Polk and Lauren Michelle Polk; great-grandchild Axel Isaiah Andrus; siblings, Harry Reno Johnson Jr., Edmonia Johnson Robertson and Harry Lee Johnson of St. Martinville, Theresa Johnson Tucker of Baton Rouge, LA, Wanda Ann Thibodeaux Wiltz of Houston, Texas, Debra Johnson of Breaux Bridge, LA and Sheila Johnson of Denham Springs, LA.
