Doris L. Melancon

Breaux Bridge – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church - Parks for Doris L. Melancon, 88, who passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday and continued on Monday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Sunday by Priscilla Theriot.
Fr. Gregory Cormier officiated at the Funeral Mass. Interment followed at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Doris was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks and taught religion for several years. She enjoyed puzzle books, sewing, singing, reading, baking, and playing bingo.
Doris loved her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her “fur babies.” She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank Landmark of Acadiana, Bridgeway Hospice, Vanessa Rodriguez and Barbara Lasseigne.
She is survived by her son, Jason P. Melancon; daughters, Cathleen M. Hebert and husband Timothy, and Sheralyne Melancon, all of St. Martinville; brother, Frank E. Mathews and wife Arlene; sister, Barbara M. Lasseigne; daughter-in-law, Carleen Melancon; grandchildren, Michelle M. Idleman and spouse Teddy, Brian O’Blanc Jr., Scott E. Hebert and spouse Diane, Khristy H. Hulin and spouse Mark, and Sharyn H. Dayton and spouse Patrick; great-grandchildren, Madeline H. Guidry and spouse Christian, Emily Ann Hebert, Noah R. Hulin, Sawyer P. Dayton, Owen T. Dayton, Tyler Idleman, Chloe Thibodeaux and Logan Thibodeaux.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Michael Lynn Melancon and Frank H. Melancon; father, Frank Joseph Mathews; mother, Adelle Metzger Mathews; two sisters; one half-brother; and three half-sisters.
Pallbearers were Jason P. Melancon, Scott E. Hebert, Noah R. Hulin, Tyler Idleman, Patrick Dayton and Mark Hulin.
Honorary pallbearers were Brian O’Blanc Jr., Sawyer P. Dayton, Owen T. Dayton, Logan Thibodeaux, Timothy Hebert and Teddy Thibodeaux.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
