Della Blanchard Dupuis

Henderson – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for Della Blanchard Dupuis, 91, who passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Cecilia.

A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday by Deacon Perry Guidry.

Father Michael Richard will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula.

Della devoted her life to teaching CCD classes at the churches she served – St. Jules Catholic Church and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  When her children were grown she became a CCD and Math teacher at St. John’s Catholic School in Franklin.

When the family moved to the Henderson area – she was a Social Worker for the Department of Children and Family Services for several years.

She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Jules Catholic Church in Franklin and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Henderson. She also served in the Ladies Altar Society and lead the Come Lord Jesus group in her area.

Her favorite past times was working in her large yard cultivating flowers and plants. She had a green thumb like no one else. She worked in her yard until she recently became ill.

She loved to cook and bake particularly for big family get togethers. Being the matriarch of her siblings – they loved nothing more than hosting Boureé card games and Pokeno. As a large family – they loved nothing more than to celebrate many occasions – Mother’s Day crawfish boils, Boucherie after Thanksgiving, family barbeque before Easter with an Easter Egg Hunt for the grandchildren, gumbo with a visit from Santa Claus before Christmas.

She and her loving brothers and sisters never needed a reason or excuse to get together. Della loved to fish and spent a lot of time at their camp and being in the boat on the weekdays. She and her husband were always there to visit family and friends.

She is survived by her loving children, Kenneth (Danette) Dupuis, Irby (Mary) Dupuis, Pam (Ed Rylee) Blanchet and Bart (Jennifer) Dupuis.

She adored her grandchildren – Ian Dupuis, Trisha Blanchet Ancelet, Dane Dupuis, Katie Dupuis Tullier, Micah Dupuis, Mark Dupuis, Michelle Blanchet, Kara Dupuis, Ezra Dupuis and Adrianna Dupuis and would lovingly say each one was smarter than the other one and each one was her favorite.

She has 20 great-grandchildren and each one of them felt special by her. Siblings – Roy (Annie) Blanchard, Carrol Blanchard Russo, Louise (Clevens) Blanchard Bergeron, Wilmer (Jun) Blanchard Jr. and Loula Blanchard Dunlap.

Della is preceded in death by her loving husband, Newton Dupuis; her parents, Wilmer Sr and May Blanchard; her siblings, Sonja Blanchard, Kathy Blanchard Hayes Patin, Camille Blanchard, Beulah Blanchard Punch and Ida Blanchard Trautman.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dane Dupuis, Mark Dupuis and Ezra Dupuis; and her great-grandsons,- Mason Ancelet, Noah Tullier and Brayden Ancelet.

The family would like to express their gratitude to NSI, particularly Britney who was her regular nurse. The ER faculty at St. Martin Hospital. The care and compassion she received from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital ER and PCU staff when her illness became critical.

Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
