Aurelia ‘Ya’ Berard Guirard

St. Martinville – A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Aurelia “Ya” Berard Guirard, 97. Msgr. Jefferson DeBlanc will be the celebrant. Following the Mass, Mrs. Guirard will be laid to rest at St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Guirard passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Landmark of Acadiana.

Born on October 11, 1924, to the late Anicet and Aurelia Berard,  Aurelia was one of 12 children. She was a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 50 years, member of the choir and served as member of the Carmelites. 

Aurelia, better known as “Ya” by family and friends, was a strong woman and hard worker. Ya worked as Lead Secretary at the Law Firm of J.B. Willis in St. Martinville. 

She overcame so much in her 97 years of life and served as an inspiration to her loving daughter, Suzanne. Ya enjoyed sewing, reading, walking, and talking with people. She will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, faith and grace, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne G. Theis (Sam); grandchildren, Ryan Theis (Ashli), Laura Theis and Allison Theis Nelson (David); and great-grandchildren, Elli Theis, Michael Theis and Callie Nelson.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence “Joe” Guirard; parents; five brothers, Anicet Jr., Adolph “Kye”, Blanc, Savie “Kelu”, and Felix “Peck” Berard; and six sisters, Lona B. Broussard, Louise “Gig” B. DeBlanc, Arsene “Rube” B. Garbarino, Clofa B. Hebert, Anne B. LaFosse and Euniva “Eunie” Berard.
