Anne Hamley de Mahy
St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Anne Hamley de Mahy, 97.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday and continued on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A rosary was prayed at 70 p.m. on Monday.
Rev. Ed Degeyter officiated at the Funeral Mass. Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
After a long life of devotion to her family, her faith and her friends, Mrs. Anne de Mahy peacefully left us on the morning of Friday, December 15, 2017. Mrs. Anne was born in Lake Providence, Louisiana on October 5, 1920, to the late John Martian and Katie Hamley.
Meeting the love of her life, Dr. Bernard de Mahy, in 1943 during WWII, they were soon married in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. At the end of the war they settled back in his hometown, St. Martinville, Louisiana. St. Martinville quickly became her home where she would spend the next seventy-one years raising their family. As a wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Anne raised 12 children. In all that life gave her, her family was her greatest reward. She taught by her example the importance of humility, serenity and selflessness.
The strong and quiet faith she shared with her husband was the driving force of her peace and devotion. She was a longtime participant of Eucharistic Adoration, a member of the Catholic Daughters, Rosary groups and a parish volunteer. Her lifelong devotion to Our Blessed Mother was an illustration of undying commitment, love and trust.
As life cared her forward, Mrs. Anne was eager to try new things. She loved to travel and always said “YES” to a new adventure. When her friends slowed down, she was always there to carry them forward. And when she in-turn needed assistance, her friends were there for her in return.
Mrs. Anne lived her life as she wanted it … leaving it all in God’s hands.
She is survived by her daughters, Carmen Nicholson and husband Lloyd, Marie Rathe and husband David, Katie Hebert and husband Tommy, and Anne Herrmann and husband Rick; her sons, Douglas de Mahy and wife Marie, Paul de Mahy and wife Marilyn, Edward de Mahy, John de Mahy and wife Misty, Jimmy de Mahy and wife Cathy, and Philip D. de Mahy and wife Beth; her daughter-in-law, Pamela Barras; 30 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Bernard Moses de Mahy; her parents, J. Martian and Katie Ransdell Hamley; two sons, Henry C. de Mahy and Bernard M. de Mahy; a grandson, J. Danton Kennison; four sisters and three brothers.
Pallbearers were her sons, Paul de Mahy, Douglas de Mahy, Edward de Mahy, John de Mahy, Jimmy de Mahy and Philip de Mahy.
Honorary pallbearers were her sons-in-law, Lloyd Nicholson, David Rathe, Tommy Hebert and Rick Herrmann.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Community of Jesus Crucified, 103 Railroad Avenue, St. Martinville, LA 70582.
