reaux Bridge – A Funeral Service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Pellerin Funeral Home for John Lee Degeyter, 70, who passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 3:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Monday, and continued on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Rev. Ed Degeyter officiated at the Funeral Service.
Interment followed at St. Bernard Mausoleum - No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
John was born and raised in Breaux Bridge. He honorably served in the United States Navy from 1968-1972. John loved helping others and volunteering for any events happening in the community, especially the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. He enjoyed listening and playing music and watching his favorite local football teams; Breaux Bridge Tigers, LSU Tigers, Saints, and UL Ragin Cajun football.
John will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his brothers, James (Norma) Degeyter of Arnaudville and Lannie (June) Degeyter of Eunice; sister, Betty Ann Degeyter (Paul) Allemand of Parks; and his numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lillian Quebedeaux Degeyter; sisters, Anna Mae New and Mary Rose Degeyter Faccion; and his brother-in-law, Ralph Faccion.
Pallbearers were Troy Allemand, Tommy Allemand, Greg Degeyter, Chris Degeyter, Shane Degeyter and Brian New.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southwest LA Veterans Home, 1610 Evangeline Rd, Jennings, LA 70546, in John Degeyter’s name.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
