Raymond “Ray” Daspit

St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church honoring the life of Raymond “Ray” Daspit, 90, who passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at his residence.

A visitation took place at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville on Sunday, August 16, 2026 and on Monday, August 17, 2026.

A Rosary was prayed on Sunday evening by the St. Martinville Cursillo Men’s Rosary Group.

Monsignor Keith DeRouen officiated at the Funeral Mass. Readers were Ashley Latiolais and Isabella Daspit Whitley. Burial followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.

Born on February 20, 1936, in St. Martinville, Ray lived a life filled with hard work, passion, unwavering faith, and dedication to his country.

Ray was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving two years as a Tank Commander. He was very proud of his service and made lifelong friends while serving.

Ray was a distinguished welder with a career in the oil and gas industry. For 20 years, he managed the yard at National Supply before establishing D&D Rig Repair Services, where he continued to build his legacy as a skilled craftsman. Later, he found joy in his role as Ranch Manager for Dr. Bradley Chastant, dedicating another 20 years. Ray’s work was not only his livelihood; it was his hobby, and he approached each task with all of his heart. His commitment to excellence earned him the respect of his peers and admiration from many young men who he mentored in the field.

Ray was an avid lover of horses and rodeoing, gaining his passion from a young age. He was a man of faith and cherished his participation in the annual Cursillo walks, traveling from Catahoula to Prairie Ronde.

Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy “Dot” Daspit; son, David Scott Daspit; daughter, Nicole Daspit Latiolais (Richard); daughter-inlaw, Amber Daspit Theriot (Anthony); sisterin- law, Jeanie Eastin Daspit; grandchildren, Joshua “Justus” Alexander Daspit, Garrett Paul Daspit (Samantha), Ashley Renee Latiolais (Grant), Isabella Daspit Whitley (Tristin), Andrew Jude Latiolais, Felicia Daspit and Shelly Fatima Daspit (Tonya); step-grandchildren, Christian Theriot, Courtney Theriot, Samuel Theriot and Luke Theriot; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Andrew Daspit, Owen Gerald Daspit, Ava Grace George, GioVanni Kane Cummings and Ezran Jude Cummings; and step-great-grandchild, Madelyn Theriot.

He is preceded in death by his son, Mitchell Jude Daspit; grandsons, David John Daspit and Dylan Andrew Daspit; parents, Robert Andrew Daspit, Sr. and Lezuma Segura Daspit; brothers, Frederic Daspit, Robert Daspit and Willard Daspit, Sr.; and sisters, Beranger Theriot and Hattie Anne Daspit.

Pallbearers were David Scott Daspit, Garrett Paul Daspit, Richard Latiolais, Andrew Latiolais, Joshua “Justus” Alexander Daspit and Anthony Theriot.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregiver with Senior Helpers, Brianna LaBorde, the Hospice of Acadiana Staff, especially nurse McKenzie Scott, and to close family friend, Tricia Hammon for her love and support throughout the years.
