David Thompson Parsons, Jr.

Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. on March 13, 2026 at St. Bernard Catholic Church for David Thompson Parsons, Jr., 83, who passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Calcutta House, Hospice of Acadiana, in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Visitation will begin in St. Bernard Church at 1:00 P.M. A rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Father Garrett MyIntyre. Burial will take place at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2.

David, a Breaux Bridge native, was born on July 11, 1942, and graduated from BreauxBridge High School in 1961. After a semester at SLI, he proudly joined the U.S. Airforce. During that time he became a highly qualified helicopter mechanic. After serving two years, he was honorably discharged and returned home. With his experience, he secured a job with Petroleum Helicopters, Inc. where he worked for 35 years as a mechanic in the “bell shop.” During that time, PHI sent him to school in France for two weeks to study components related to his work.

In 1968, PHI sent David to Kentucky for an assignment and it was there that he met his wife, Sandra Kay Luster. They were married November 24, 1968, Thanksgiving Day, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Clemensville, Kentucky, and later returned to Breaux Bridge.

David loved the outdoors: camping, hunting and fishing. He took part in many fishing rodeos and loved fishing in the Basin. He was an active Charter Member of the Attakapas Hunting Club where he made life-long friends. He remained a loyal, active member for many years.

Though Sandra and David had no children, he enjoyed the many gatherings with his family and loved ones and loved to share stories of camping, hunting and fishing with them.

Later in life, due to various debilitating physical conditions, he and his wife, Sandra, became residents of St. Agnes Healthcare and Rehab Center. There he participated in many activities and made many friends. He enjoyed listening to music on his computer, looking up data, and keeping numerous records. He found a new passion, pencil coloring, in pencil books for adults, where he did exceptionally well. He shared his beautiful, well-done pictures with family and friends. He also participated in the Senior Olympics and at one time won a 2nd Place medal in the wheelchair race competition. After a reconversion of faith, he attended Mass when he could and loved the Rosary.

David was a loyal friend to those who knew him and was a kind brother and uncle. He will be sadly missed by his wife, sister, family and friends.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sandra Luster Parsons; a sister, Cecile Parsons Usie (Norman); a niece, Lauren “Kitty” U. Janise (David); two nephews, Chippey Usie (Nicole), and Kyle Usie (Jill); ten grand nieces and nephews, Ryan Janise (Jessica), Dr. Annie J. Nash (Joe), Eric Janise, Corey Janise, Owen Usie, Adam Usie, Aidan Usie, Kali Usie, Jenna Usie, and Ana Usie; three great grand nephews, Michael Janise, Aaron Janise, Dean Nash, and a great grandniece, Bonnie Claire Nash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David T. and Helen Angelle Parsons, and his favorite aunt, Cecile Angelle (Aunt Ti).

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many nurses, aides and administrative staff for their patient, quality care at St. Agnes, St. Martin Hospital, and Calcutta House, Hospice of Acadiana.
