Nolan “Noonie” Duplantis Sr. of St. Martinville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in St. Martinville, Big Noonie was a lifelong sugarcane farmer who dedicated much of his life to his land, his family, and his community. Even after retiring from his farming business, Big Noonie couldn’t sit still. He stayed busy helping his son with helicopter operations, cutting grass on the family property, and pitching in with whatever needed to be done. Whether it was tending to the crawfish ponds or simply riding his John Deere Gator in the afternoons, chasing sunsets, or watching the world go by, Big Noonie found purpose in every task, always staying involved with his family and the land he loved.

Big Noonie was married to his beloved wife, Dolores “Dobie” Halphen Duplantis, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years together. In marriage, they raised three children: Darlene (Michael), Noonie (Tonya), and Angie (Joseph). He was preceded in death by his son, David Michael, and his daughter, Angela Duplantis Daly. His greatest pride was always his family. He cherished his role as a father and was an even prouder grandfather to Micah, Jonah (Paige), Morgan (Peyton), Andrew, Aiden, and Ben. His legacy continues with his great-grandchildren: Rory, Gemma, and Archer.

Big Noonie came from a large and loving family, the son of the late Harold Armand Duplantis and Helen Rist Duplantis. He was one of ten siblings, with five brothers and four sisters. His brothers included the late Harold (Sonny) Duplantis, Warren (Tookie) Duplantis, Larry Duplantis, Gerard (Jerry Lee) Duplantis, and Carroll Duplantis. His sisters included Janet Buford, the late Helen Kay Leger, the late Aileen (Jo) Broussard, and Vicki Holleman. Family was always at the heart of Big Noonie’s life, and he shared a deep bond with each of his siblings.

A man of deep faith, Big Noonie was vocal about his relationship with the Lord and strived to live as a follower of Christ in his own unique way. His love language was simple but profound: ensuring that no one— family, friends, or animals— ever went hungry. Whether he was offering a snack to his grandkids or feeding the many creatures that passed through his property, his generous and nurturing spirit were always present.

Noonie was a talker and a storyteller. He loved nothing more than a good conversation with those he cared about. He was a hard worker, a provider, and a man who truly embodied the values of faith, family, and community. His presence will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests continued prayers on their behalf.
