Cecilia- A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church honoring the life of Jervis “Jerv” Thibodeaux, 90, who passed away on November 25, 2025.

A visitation took place at Pellerin Funeral Home in Cecilia on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.

A rosary was prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.

Rev. Greg Cormier officiated at the Funeral Mass. Readers were Morgan Johnson and Landon Broussard. Gift bearers were Rachelle Broussard, Tracy Angelle and Hannah Broussard.

Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Jerv led a life marked by a relentless commitment to education, public service, and family.

Jerv graduated from high school in Pine Prairie before pursuing his higher education at Louisiana Tech and the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL), where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1962 and his Master’s degree in 1967. He further pursued advanced graduate work at Louisiana State University, Northwestern University, and USL, demonstrating his lifelong passion for learning.

His career in education began at Cecilia High School, where he taught Mathematics and Physics for nine years before being promoted to supervisor of Secondary Education in 1971. Over his 33 years of service to the St. Martin Parish School Board, he also supervised high school curriculum and transportation before retiring in 1995. Following his retirement, he continued to share his love for mathematics as a teacher at Opelousas Catholic until 2018. During his career, Jerv and Anna traveled to 15 different countries around the world with his students and parents.

A respected figure in his community, Jerv served in numerous leadership roles, including Chairman of Sewerage District #2 and the St. Martin Parish Recreation Program, President of the Cecilia Athletic Association, and memberships in various educational organizations including Louisiana Association of School Executives, Louisiana Association of Secondary Education, Louisiana State Association of School Administrators, Gulf South Supervisors Association, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and The Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana. His commitment to public service and education earned him the deep respect and admiration of colleagues and students alike.

Additionally, Jerv served honorably as an official photographer in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, a testament to his dedication to his country.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Thibodeaux; children, Gregory (Geneva) Thibodeaux, Matthew (Lynette) Thibodeaux and Catherine (Rick) Smith; step-children, Rachelle (Derren) Broussard, Tracy (Jay) Angelle and Shawn (Tatum) Landry; grandchildren, Madison Thibodeaux and Jena Smith; step-grandchildren, Austin Broussard, Landon Boussard, Morgan Johnson, Noah Landry and Eli Landry; two great-grandchildren; two step-greatgrandchildren; and sisters, Louretta Baker and Ivanez Hammonds.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Rita Courville Thibodeaux; brothers, Alton and Ulise Thibodeaux; and his sister, Shirley Ardoin.

Pallbearers will be Matt Thibodeaux, Derren Broussard, Shawn Landry, Austin Broussard, Jay Angelle and Noah Landry.

Honorary pallbearers were Carol Patin, Jerry Duhon, Darrell Boyer, Addie Boyer, Dan Melancon, Harris Theriot, Kenneth Chauffe, Wilson Thibodeaux, Eli Landry, Knox Broussard and Jaxon Broussard.

Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) was in charge of arrangements.
