A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at Mallalieu Methodist Church until the time of service.
A native of Lake Charles, LA., and a resident of St. Martinville, she departed this Earthly life on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 9:02 a.m.
Laura was an active member of the community. Serving as President of the African American Museum, she organized the annual celebration for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for twenty plus years. She was a 1964 graduate of W.O. Boston High School in Lake Charles. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, and a Master of Science in Education from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge.
She was employed by the Saint Martin School System for fifty years and later taught in the Lafayette Parish School System. Lastly, she was a member of the African American Museum in Saint Martinville.
She was a member of Mallalieu Methodist Church in which she was a Lay Leader and overseer of Vacation Bible School.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Troy Turpeau of Lafayette, LA; her daughter Krystal Turpeau Ricks (Justin) of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Bradley Harris, Iyanna Turpeau, Torain Benjamin, Cassidy Gary, and Jerzi Ricks; one greatgrandchild, Calania Mouton, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred White, two sisters; Betty Stevens and Joyce Hazel; three brothers; Warren White, John White, and Lionel Grice.
Active Pallbearers will be Troy Turpeau, Bradley Harris, Cassidy Gary, Tim Turpeau, Jordan Jackson, and Avery Vitto.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Torian Benjamin, Michael Hazel, Jason Hazel, Erik Johnson, Charles Wright, and Ernest Hill.
