Roberta Martin Olivier
Thibodaux – Roberta “Bobbie” Martin Olivier was born on February 3, 1924, in St. Martinville, La. to James J. Martin Sr. and May Fournet Martin. After completing high school, Bobbie moved to New Orleans where she attended Sophie Newcomb College and Soulé College. She married Albert G. “Moose” Olivier Jr. in 1949 then moved to Thibodaux shortly thereafter where she lived for the remainder of her life.
She was passionate about painting, international travel with friends and sharing memories about her rich St. Martinville cultural history. Above all, Bobbie loved her children and extended family. “Family first” was always her guiding principal.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert G. “Moose” Olivier Jr.; and by her siblings, Anna May Thomas, James J. Martin Jr., Mildred Martin Billeaud and John Paul Martin.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Pierre “Pete” Olivier (Teri), Robert Olivier (Barbara), André Olivier (Marianne), and Nanette Olivier (Kurt); her eight grandchildren, Adrienne Hymel (Brad), Pierre Olivier, Phillip Olivier, Paul Olivier, Margaret Browne (Andy), Martin Olivier (Victoria), Rebecca Braun (Barrett) and Martin Braun; her great-grandchildren Collette Olivier, Henry Browne, Owen Hymel and Lee Hymel; and a special niece, Lynn Bonneval.
A visitation was held in her honor on Monday, October 29, 2018, at Landry’s Funeral Home in Thibodaux from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. On Tuesday she was brought to St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Her burial followed in St. Michael’s Cemetery in St. Martinville.
The family would like to thank those who helped to care for Bobbie, especially Ola Mae Thomas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of their choice.
