Qualification opens Wednesday, July 20

The qualification period for seats on the St. Martin School Board and offices of several area municipalities opens next Wednesday, July 20.

Positions to be filled at the state level include U.S. senator and representative, Louisiana Supreme Court, and the state’s 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal.

The primary election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Qualification will be in the Clerk of Court’s Office in St. Martinville for the 10 seats on the School Board and for mayor, police chief and aldermen in Breaux Bridge and Parks as well as Arnaudville and Broussard which are mainly located in St. Landry and Lafayette Parishes, respectively, but extend into St. Martin.

The Nov. 8 date will also include special elections to replace Rick Ward in Louisiana Senate District 17 (Lower St. Martin) and for the vacant Ward 3 justice of the peace position.

Candidates may qualify for the local offices between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, July 20-23 at the Courthouse Annex on St. Martin Street.
