THE WEDDING WILL HAPPEN on Saturday, April 18, for Jeigh Lynn Touchet and Scott Thomas, despite COVID-19. (Submitted)

Love prevails over virus

“I’ve been waiting for a long time to get married,” says Jeigh Lynn Touchet. “I finally found a man to marry me and I thought ‘now the world will come to an end?’”
Touchet, an X-ray technologist at an area hospital, is on the front line battling this deadly disease. She and fiancée, Scott Thomas, who works for AT&T, have been planning their wedding since their engagement in May 2019. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple’s wedding guest list plumeted from 350 to just ten people, counting themselves.
But the couple decided to go ahead with the planned ceremony, set for this Saturday, April 18, at St. Leo Catholic Church in Leonville instead of rescheduling.
They have cancelled the reception, honeymoon trip to Puerto Rico and cruise to the Virgin Islands. Instead they are asking family members to drive by the church after the ceremony, where the couple will be standing on the steps, and wave to the newlyweds.
“It’s going to be better than I could have expected,” says Touchet. “At first I was very upset.”
But she remains positive that the outcome of the April 18 ceremony will be memorable, an “intimate event just for me and Scott.”
Thomas and Touchet, who met at Beau Chene High School 15 years ago, have been a couple for the past six years. They hope to celebrate their marriage with a reception for family and friends at a later date.
