Early voting to begin Saturday

Early voting for the big Oct. 12 gubernatorial primary begins here in St. Martin Parish this Saturday, Sept. 28. Registrar of Voters Patricia T. Guidry says parish voters may cast early ballots in three locations, including her office on St. Martin Street behind the courthouse in St. Martinville, the Sydney Mae Durand Center on Cannery Road in Breaux Bridge and the Water District No. 1 building on Tower Tank Road in Lower St. Martin. All three locations will be open daily (except on Sunday, Sept. 29) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 5 for voting. Voters face a lengthy ballot including all statewide offices, state representative and senator, Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) as well as parishwide offices and Parish Council seats. Also on the ballot are four proposed amendments to the Louisiana constitution. Theriot also asks voters who submit their ballots through the mail to send those in as soon as possible. Mail ballots must be received at the Registrar’s office no later than Friday, Oct. 11, the day before the election.
