Breaux Bridge – Two men were arrested by Breaux Bridge Police after a body found behind a home in the city was identified as a 72-year-old man who had been missing for more than a week.
Breaux Bridge Police had treated the disappearance of John Fontenette of Breaux Bridge as a homicide even before finding the body, saying they feared he was the victim of foul play.
Fontenette’s body was found on Oct. 5 in a building behind a home along North Railroad Street in Breaux Bridge. Police have not said how Fontenette died. An autopsy was started on Oct. 6 to determine the cause of death.
Police were awaiting DNA testing to positively identify the man, but family members confirmed to the media that it was Fontenette. Police arrested Devante Benjamin, 34, and Oscar Glover, 46, both of Breaux Bridge, in connection with the death. The two were each charged with second degree murder and are being held without bond at the St. Martin Parish Jail.
Police have not identified a possible motive for the killing.
The investigation is ongoing.
