United Way of Acadiana is meeting families where they are through a partnership with the local Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) office, putting free books directly into the hands of young children and their families.
A presentation was made by Heather Blanchard United Way of Acadiana President/ CEO; Tiffany Comeaux United Way of Acadiana Director of Early Childhood Family & Services; and Annette Harrison Victor United Way of Acadiana Director of Early Head Start at the St. Martin Parish Health Unit in St. Martinville on Aug. 12.
By providing books during WIC visits, United Way is making early literacy resources easy to access while encouraging parents and caregivers to read with their children at home.
Personalized text messaging allows the ability to stay connected with families by sharing helpful information and resources.
The partnership is a simple example of what it means to meet people where they are, bringing resources directly to families and helping Acadiana’s children build a strong foundation for learning.
