One of the Assumption Parish Waterworks board members made a comment at the recent meeting that he was tired of hearing about the ‘inoperable’ hydrants, a statement which all agreed with. It was suggested that it might be helpful to find out what it would cost to hire someone not an employee, to repair these hydrants as opposed to the cost and time consumed for a plant employee to deal with them in addition to all the other responsibilities he has.
In general, most communities hire an inspector to check their hydrants but not fix them. Inoperable too often means a non-critical rusty bolt, or a thorny bush on the hydrant. A plant employee is required to fix the hydrant.
Labadieville and Napoleonville reported l7 and 25 inoperable hydrants. Pierre Part, Bayou L’Ourse and Paincourtville routinely report possibly 2 or 3, several of which are truly non-functioning/ inoperable. Hopefully, this problem will be settled one way or another.
It was reported that 1395 cellular meters have been replaced.
The Engineering committee approved payment of $16,649.25 for construction and inspection to Shread Kuyrkendall & Associattes, Inc. Pintail Contracting Services will be paid $323,272.78 for 96% job completion.
