– Two people died Monday morning in an accident involving a passenger vehicle and two sugar cane tractor rigs on Resweber Street in St. Martinville.
Interim St. Martinville Police Chief Andrew Broussard identified the two as Stephan Cormier, 56, and Solange Champagne, 25.
“We’re still in the preliminary stages of our investigation,” Broussard said Tuesday morning. “We’re still trying to figure out what took place.”
Cormier was driving one of the tractors involved in the accident and Champagne was driving the passenger vehicle.
Broussard said the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted St. Martinville Police in securing the crash site.
The St. Martinville Police Department is in charge of investigating the cause of the accident. Broussard said SMPD will likely get help from the Louisiana State Police and the Sheriff’s Office if needed during the investigation.
