My hummingbird feeders are being visited by at least one chameleon, and several wasps daily but not one single hummingbird. I have no idea what’s the problem, but if you do, please share with me. I’ve cleaned the feeders, put in fresh liquid, made sure the ants can’t get in the bottles and still no little birds. I think I will just continue to enjoy all the little birds that Mr. Huet attracts over in Cecilia and stop worrying about mine.
Another hot day is coming. The mornings are nice but I seem to have trouble getting out when it’s still cool. Today it was Facetime with a loved one, then several news items to the papers and now I just was reminded that my dog is due for her heartworm injection.
And it’s a good thing I mentioned the latter because it turns out the dog appt. is Oct. 16 not today.
Stephensville library had a walk-a-thon through Oak Harbor \\ Saturday. On the same day, the Assumption Parish main library in Napoleonville held a back-to-school bash. That reminds me to say thanks to Ms. Brew at the library for the box of books she recently sent over. Our little book boxes are full right now but they don’t stay that way so I’m always glad of more books.
This might not be of interest to you, but the Heart of the Atchfalaya museum project just got a boost by signing a contractor to build the main museum building A local man, Michael Delatte of Del Con. The info with the signing event said the project should be complete in a month.
And of course, please keep in mind the Oct. 31 paddle the bayou event that BTNEP is sponsoring. That will start at Veterans Park in upper Pierre Part. Since it is on Halloween I’ve heard people are invited to wear costumes which should make it interesting to see the various “creatures” paddling through the woods. It’s a 10 mile paddle, or 5.5 for others which isn’t bad at all. I personally paddled several times (with a partner) from Donaldsonville to Lockport but that took 4 days and we camped twice to break up the trip. It was lots of fun.
Several people from SMILE came to the Belle River Community Centeer to offer assistance for energy. Not many people showed up but I’ve talked to the head person and she is going to send over some ladies to do the same again only this time in the Stephensville fire station. Apparently there is some money—federal???— that has to be disbursed by the end of the month and Food for Seniors is Oct. 24 which makes it all work out perfectly Two birds with one stone so to speak.
I’m beginning to wonder if something might have kept the hummingbirds away because it’s not just the little guys who are absent. I realized that I have no birds at all coming to my deck where I throw feed nor to the container fastened to the railing which is also full of birdseed. Could something have been sprayed in the area? If I find out I’ll definitely let you all know. I miss the little guys.
I will be attending a “widows” supper tonight in Morgan City. Darrel and Janel O’Neal host this every now and then for widows. It’s mostly a get together with food and ladies are given the opportunity to say a prayer or offer a thought for someone in their family who might need it. Often a few games are played. It’s just mostly a time to get away from home, I think. Meet friends. I don’t go often because I usually have yoga class on Thursday nights but this night everyone in the class told me they couldn’t come for exercise. So I’ll join the other widows!!!!
