Lake Charles – The Cecilia High Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the 2026 football season Friday at the hands of a powerful Class 5A Barbe football team, falling 48-19 in Lake Charles.
“Honestly, when you play a good team you can’t make mental mistakes, and we made too many mental mistakes Friday,” coach Cody Champagne said. “A lot of it has to do with them. A lot of it has to do with us, too. Those things can’t happen if we’re going to play a team like that. We didn’t help ourselves.”
The Bulldogs also lost starting quarterback Layne Champagne to an injury that is likely to keep him out of action for two to three weeks, the coach said.
