Where do all these holidays come from? Seems I’m just recovering from one and there’s another. When I was working on a 9 to 5 job, I’m sure I loved the vacations. With deadlines to meet, they’re not so much fun.
Best to Mr. Huet who is having some medical issues and congratulations to his success in the Hummingbird business. He seems to really attract the little hummers. Me, not so much. Admittedly I’m a bit lax about keeping the feeder filled. I do have one hummer but not a regular yet.
We here in Belle River are having sporadic rains, some pretty ugly ones. They just don’t last long. I don’t watch much TV and haven’t been keeping up with the tropical depression in the gulf but I guess that’s where all this weather is coming from. At least it’s not as hot.
The Belle River Community Center is rather busy these days. In addition to party rentals, twice weekly Yoga, twice monthly Bingo, now a lady from SMILE is coming over to spend a few hours signing people up for energy assistance, etc. Thie program, SMILE or LIHEAP used to come over on a regular basis a few years back, but the gentleman who came then has retired I hear or at least he’s not with that program anymore. I think the program would/could help pay for electric bills and if I remember, it could/would help people get help in other ways----with housing, etc. The lady who is coming will be at the site on Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and I’ll try to spend some time chatting with her. I’m not personally needing any help but I know my electric bill has been pretty high the past month and can imagine other people are feeling the pinch also.
Actually, it was the last gas fill up for my car that was a real shock. That dial kept going up and up. I have a little car which gets good gas mileage but it was a shock to pay over $40. I actually looked under the car to see if maybe it was draining out but no such luck. Filling a truck must be a real horror! And groceries! Oh my!
I know I’m being a pessimist but I’m afraid that when this war business with Iran is over, if it ever is, we will be right back where we started but with everything costing more. Before the ‘war’, the Straits of Hormuz was open and now it isn’t and will likely cost the US money to ever pass through. And I’m not hearing anything about the nuclear issue. Wasn’t that the biggest worry to keep the Iranians from building an atomic bomb?
Mr. Huet tells me he’s practically surrounded with hummingbirds at his house. After hearing this I put a second feeder out with no success. Took the second one down. Refilled the original one which turned out to have an ill fitting section and all the fluid drained out. I put the second one back out and it was visited by a lizard and at least two wasps but no hummingbirds. Now I’m back to one feeder which seems to be ok and I just saw a little bird drinking from it. I’m feeling a little better now. But when I get to a store I’ m going to buy a brand new feeder and find an appealing place to hang it. Enough of all these frustrations.
If any of you have ever been to an eye doctor you’ll understand when I say I’m having a Field of Vision test this morning and dreading it. It’s not hard just maddening to sit, peering with one eye, watching for tiny yellow dots and pressing a clicker when you do see one. After a while I begin to see yellow dots everywhere! Or worse! Not seeing any at all! Wish me luck.
