September 11, 1926
The Messenger this week commenced the publication of the proposed Constitutional Amendments, which will be voted on at the November election, every voter should read them carefully in order to intelligently vote for or against any of them.
A new VFW post was organized in Breaux Bridge. Charter members were George Patin, Oswald Angelle, Edwin J. Webre, Locke Pellerin, Lewis Revoire, Dan Broussard, Noe Ledoux, Sidney Thibodeaux, Ernest Webre, George Green, Noe Hebert, Valsin Theriot, Clifford Pellerin, John Guilbeau, Oscar Beckeneryer and Brognier Guidroz.
The feature presentation at the Bienvenu Theatre was “The Merry Widow” starring starring Mae Murray and John Gilbert.

Newly elected officers of the Mercy High Honor Society were Phyllis Thibodeaux, president; Becky Resweber, vice president; Jill Bienvenu, secretary: Julie Bonin, treasurer; and Lynette Braud, reporter.
Sen. Oswald Decuir and Rep. Jesse Guidry announced that they had obtained state approval for preliminary engineering and survey work for a new Bayou Teche bridge at Breaux Bridge.
Fish experts from the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission recommended the draining of Henderson Lake to improve fishing conditions in the area.
The St. Martinville City Council gave the mayor the authority to negotiate for the purchase of property to be used for the construction of a new fire station on the east side of Bayou Teche.
Approximately 60 Catahoula residents met to discuss the feasibility of incorporating the community.

Naomi Angelle of Cecilia was crowned Miss St. Martin. Named first maid was Kim Inzerella. Second runner-up was Kim Babin.
Total enrollment of St. Martin Parish public schools was 9.062, a decrease of 59 students from the previous year.
The gates of the Longfellow-Evangeline State Commemorative Area in St. Martinville were closed indefinitely and the facility was no longer open to tourists and local residents. The park was one of 22 sites in the state park system closed due to the state’s budgetary problems.
The St. Martin School Board took under advisement a comprehensive search and seizure policy development by its staff to serve as a guide for school administrators.

Donna Angelle and the Zydeco Posse cranked it up during the 7th annual Creole Zydeco Festival sponsored by the Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary Council in St. Martinville’s Adam Carlson Memorial Park.
Improvements for the sewer systems of Stephensville and Belle River were approved by Parish President Scott Angelle as 100 percent federally funded projects.
