FRENCH TABLE – Craig Frederick, at left in the left photo, was among those gathered to hear guest speaker Marie Ducote at the French Table on Aug. 19 at Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site. Although her grandparents spoke French, Ducote thought French in Louisiana would soon die out. But when she became owner/operator of Cajun Food Tours for her second career, she was happily obliged to reclaim the language. Jimmy Mire, right photo, brought historic tools to show at the Aug. 26 French table at Longfellow-Evangeline. He is pictured here with sheep shears and a carving knife. The group then enjoyed sharing riddles in French. The St. Martinville French Table meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site. Speakers of Cajun, Creole and international French are welcome, from beginners to native speakers. Admission is free. (Submitted)
