From what my phone app says, it will be at least 95 again today and probably the next several days. I’m sick of being inside and it’s too hot to be out. I took the dog to the landing yesterday at 7 p.m. and it was still 87.
The landing is pretty deserted most every day. A few dumpster divers but not many fishermen.
I refreshed my Hummingbird feeder and still no little birds. I told you that two had visited in the past week, but neither have returned. I do have some flowers in the yard but not many. I wonder if the heat affects the birds. I guess it must or why do birds and butterflies migrate south and north at various time of the year.
We start our bi-weekly Yoga classes now with a short Tai Chi program. It seems like a way to relax a bit. Every session ends with a meditative pose of eyes closed, everything relaxed and it wouldn’t be hard to fall asleep even sitting in a chair. I have provided several DVDs and we use a different one at times. Some instructors are better than others — at least that’s my opinion. One lady talks too much, another talks too fast. No matter who the DVD instructor is, the poses are pretty much the same.
My oldest daughter is taking a strength training class and my granddaughter takes Hot Yoga. So the whole family is getting some exercise. Except my sister, bless her heart, who is not into exercising.
Did I tell you that the BTNEP people are holding a one day paddle event at the Veterans Park water trails site on Oct. 31? I don’t have many details yet, but they will be forthcoming. You’re not too far away for this. I’ll put more info in this column as I get it. I think canoes will be available to rent or bring your own. And I think I heard that since Oct. 31 is Halloween it’s possible some paddlers might dress in costume. Don’t hold me to that.
Some of my family tell me it’s raining and chilly there. Another reports temps in the mid 60s. And my phone continues to forecast mid to high 90s. Yesterday, it rained quite unexpectedly and it was really nice for a short while, then the sun came back and it was just as hot if not hotter.
I drove to a meeting in Napoleonville yesterday evening and had to take a pretty long detour on Hwy. 996 rather than continue on Hwy. 70 past Dow. Somebody had driven a box truck off the road into the swamp. Don’t know if anyone was hurt but the traffic on the back road was sure heavy. I’ll bet the people who live there weren’t happy.
It was brought to my attention the other day that questions were being asked about the use of golf carts on public roads. I honestly don’t know the difference between all these off road vehicles but the internet explained that golf carts, because of their fragile construction are not allowed on any public roads in Louisiana, possible any state. When you get to other ones like ATVs, rules might be different but mostly those are not allowed on public roads either unless specific state or municipal rules allow them.
I don’t know about the rest of St. Martin parish but there are a lot of off-road vehicles around here, not golf carts, but they are on the roads all over the place. They do look like a lot of fun and pretty handy in subdivisions but they are a little hard to see when you’re driving a regular car or truck. But other regular vehicles are hard to see also at times! Just have to watch. Don’t get me started on tailgaters!
