Water well, LAMP focus of Parks meet

Neal McClelland Correspondent

Parks - The Parks Village Council held a brief August meeting focused primarily on routine business, with updates on the village’s new well project and its investment in the Louisiana Asset Management Program (LAMP).

Mayor Kevin Kately said work on the new well is progressing and construction is expected to begin soon on the building that will house it.

“The construction around the well and the pump on the well is coming along,” Kately said. “Hopefully, very soon, the new well will be up and running.”

Kately said invoices for the project are beginning to arrive, though the village is also receiving some of the grant funding it applied for.

“It looks like the final cost for the village is going to be about a million dollars,” Kately said. “We’re still looking for more grant money to help offset that amount, but we do have the money in the bank to pay our cost of the new well.”

The mayor also said he is exploring the cost of constructing a new water-storage container. He said he has spoken with the company that helped build City Hall and is considering a 250,000-gallon container.

“I’d like to build a 250,000-gallon container as sort of a Plan B,” Kately said. “We’ve always had a Plan A, but this would be a Plan B in case we ever need it.”

In other business, Kately and the council agreed to add $200,000 to the village’s existing $800,000 investment in LAMP, bringing the total investment to about $1 million.

“We should start seeing some return on our investment soon,” Kately said. “We can take that money and invest it into our water program or whatever we need to fix up or add to in the village.”

With no further business, the council adjourned until September.
