During July the U.S. sweltered through the warmest month ever recorded since we began tracking temperatures in 1895, and, turn up the AC, August has the potential to be even hotter, at least in these parts.
The average temperature for the U.S. mainland was 76.9 degrees in July, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). That’s about three degrees above the average for the 20th century and broke the old record set in July 1936 by about a tenth of a degree.
